"Spot on. SEO is evolving into AEO, and that’s exactly why ''THE COMPLETE SUBSTACK OPERATIONS MANUAL'' includes an entire section on structuring content for AI Overviews. Tools like AEO Analyzer are great for diagnostics, but you still need a framework to write the content that actually gets picked up."

Totally get the frustration here spending hours diagnosing traffic drops only to realize AI Overviews are swallowing clicks is brutal.

Search is shifting from “10 blue links” to answer engines, where Google (and others) try to satisfy the query right on the page. That means traditional SEO alone isn’t enough anymore.

One thing that’s been useful lately is thinking in terms of Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) structuring content so it’s more likely to be quoted or referenced inside these AI-style answers.

A free tool that helped wrap my head around this is https://aeoanalyzer.app it basically shows how content might surface in AI answers and where there are gaps. Not a magic fix, but it makes the problem feel more understandable and less mysterious.
